OWH #59 Easter Card... and our weekend in Kannapolis/Concord, NC.

Sketch #59 on the Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps blog challenge for this week:

I am not a fan of pink, so I'm not sure why I grabbed that color to make this card,, but I did... and I don't mind too much the way it turned out.

I the most wonderful weekend spent in Kannapolis/Concord, North Carolina.. we are now back home. Today is my birthday (March 6th) .. and this has been one of the best birthday's.. ever! I got to go to Dale Earnhardt Inc. on Friday and drove by again on Saturday.. we went to several race shops around the Kannapolis/Concord area, but visiting Dale Earnhardt's place was by far the most memorable.

When I walked in the front door, I stopped because I couldn't move, I was trying to take it all in.. I had tears in my eyes for that moment because the sadness of the day that he died was coming front and center. I told myself that I really wanted to enjoy this and to not be sad, but to be happy that I was part of a big group of people who called themselves "fans of Dale"... I so enjoyed our visit there and after viewing all the displays and taking many pictures, we went into the gift shop. I had been wanting a new hoodie with Dale's signature and the #3.. and found just what I wanted.. I ended up with 3 hoodies, 2 tshirts, a magnet for my Armada, a keychain, some Dale bracelets, a new fuzzy blanket (the one I have is faded and worn from being loved so much).. I think that's all.. When we went to Jr Motorsports (Dale Earnhardt Jr's place) I bought a Dale sign that is in the shape of North Carolina.

We visited Stewart-Haas Racing, Hendrick Motorsports (got to see lots of Jimmie Johnson stuff), Joe Gibbs Racing, Red Bull Racing, JR Motorsports.. but the best was DEI.

I did find out a few things when we were there.. I thought that I was the only person who at tomatoes and miracle whip sandwiches.. nope! Dale Earnhardt liked them too! there's a diner called Punchie's Diner that will fix one for you. I also learned where Dale is buried, there on his property.. way out in the middle of the field is some trees that surround a mausoleum. You can see if from Googlemaps. Years ago I had heard it was somewhere private.

We also spend a good portion of our day on Saturday at Concord Mills mall venturing around the mall and at Bass Pro Shops.. then headed over to Cracker Barrel to enjoy some delicious Chicken, Rice & Gravy.. yummy!!!

On the ride up on Friday, we stopped at the house of the East Coast Shipper for Operation Write Home, Dixie Cochran... she is such a sweetie. I so wish we had had more time to visit... maybe on another trip to Charlotte it can happen.

We will be returning to the Concord area in May for the Coca-Cola 600 race held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

I have lots of photos and will get some of them posted to my FB page sometime soon.

thanks for looking ~

have a great airborne day!
God Bless All Our Military.. each and every one of them
