Days til Christmas Advent Calendar

Last year I wanted so badly to make one of the Advent Calendars I had seen on SCS, however where I was in MO, I would've had to spend a small fortune to get the tins and the canvas, so I didn't make one. This year however being in NC, I have access to more stores and gotta love them 40 and 50% off coupons~ yeah! I got the 16" x 20" canvas at Hobby Lobby and the tins at the Dollar Tree. I had a brand new pack of Dashing DSP that I couldn't find at all today.. not sure how it grew legs and walked away, so I opted to us a Stampin' UP! All the Trimmings ~ gosh I hope that is what the Scrappin' Kit is called.. it is retired, I bought it and never used it, but for today it was perfect. I used my Cricut Expressions and the Doodletype cartridge to cut out all the numbers and letters, 1 1/2" and Scallop circle punches for the tins, stickers are from the kit. I started on this about 6 hours ago and in the mix fixed dinner and ate, and then went right back to working on it. I am going to fill it with candy for my kiddos and hubby.

~*Happy Thanksgiving*~

I hope that everybody is enjoying a blessed Thanksgiving. My family made a pie and some muffins this morning ~ yummy Pear Granola and Double Blueberry ones. I had seen a show on TV the other day and hit record on the DVR, we got what we needed to make them last night and made them first thing this morning. It is always such fun watching the kids measure out things and get them ready to put together. Steve got home from hunting and helped with cutting up the pears, we all had a hand in making them and they turned out great.
I baked a ham today.. oh my, it was good.. we ate around lunchtime, so that the boys could go back out hunting this afternoon.

I am truly thankful for my family.

If you are hitting the stores either today or tomorrow for sale items.. I hope that you find some awesome deals.. I avoid the crowds and stay home! hopefully I'll get some stamping done tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving ~

An Assortment of Christmas Cards

Even though we have three computers hooked up in this room and a laptop downstairs.. we tend to only use this computer since the others are some years old and are a bit slower for what we want them to do on the internet.. so tonight while my daughter was surfing music on the web, I was busy stamping and made these four cards.

My brother John will be returning from Iraq in a few days.. yeah!! I hope to post a picture from his return.. I know my mom will take some pictures and send my way. I am so happy that both of my brothers will be home, hopefully for a long time.

Please say a prayer for military members and their families ... I had wanted to say "those that are currently deployed, getting ready for deployment, or already returned" ~ but I think that all military warrant a prayer whether they are home or abroad.. I know that they appreciate all your thoughts and prayers.

How to make scallop border using Martha Stewart Bat Punch

When I got the Martha Stewart Halloween Bat Punch a few weeks ago, the first thing I did was punch a bat.. and then flipped it over and punched out a border.. I really liked the scallop border that was created.

Here is how I did it:

1. start by punching bat near edge of cardstock.

2. Scoot the punch over where the tip of the wing to the right is just barely touching the tip of the left wing that was just punched.

3. Continue to do this across the cardstock.

4. When you have punched the border out, just clip away the bottom part if it doesn't already fall away. You might need to round some of the scallop tips. That's it.

Embossed Snowmen Christmas Card ~ & ~ Snowmen Glass Ornaments

The strip of snowmen is from the patterend paper that I got on Saturday at a local scrapbook store... I made the scallop border beneath the snowmen using a Martha Stewart Halloween Bat punch. The Red Riding Hood layer is embossed using a Cuttlebug folder. I had diecut a big snowflake to use on this card, but it looked too big after I had cut it out, so it got scratched.

The snowmen ornaments are some small square glass ornaments that I got at Hobby Lobby.. I stamped the snowman, punched it out and layered it on a square and the scallop square.. I put some snow type stuff inside it.

Beate's Weekend Sketch Card ~ and ~ a bunch of Christmas cards

I wanted to make a card that used the layout in Beate's Weekend Sketch ~ this is the card that I made:
airbornewife christmas rubber stamping snowmen snowman penguin embossing The Stampin' UP! stamp set Punch Pals is such a fun set ~ I used some retired DSP~ Wintergreen on the card. The strip running behind the snowman is embossed with a Cuttlebug Dots Strip embossing folder and I scored the lines on top/bottom using the ScorPal (love it!)

Here is another Christmas card I made after I made the one above.. I used some Inkadinkado Christmas stamps on it.. same cardstock/dsp as the first card:

Yesterday me and my youngest son went to a local scrapbook store that was having an "open house" ~ lots of fun things to do. We got to do four of the projects and had to get home so Steve could go back out hunting.. while we were doing one of the projects, the lady was showing me a card that they were going to be doing for an upcoming class.. I loved the snowman and penguin paper and had to buy a sheet of each.. I cut apart the penguin paper and am layering them onto cards and adding some embellishments.. they are so cute. Here are the cards I made tonight and the second picture is what pictures I still have left to make into cards:

Gratitude ~ Thanksgiving Card

I learned something tonight... I have no more Pumpkin Pie cardstock left.. one of my favorite colors. I used the last half sheet that I had. Gonna have to order some soon.

I embossed the pumpkins in clear embossing powder and colored in the pumpkins with pumpkin pie ink and an aquapainter, I also embossed the word "gratitude".

I bought a new Cricut cartridge today... Sports Mania.. wow. the cartridge has so many different things on it, I got it because of the Golf, Basketball, and Baseball stuff.. gonna give it a whirl soon. I couldn't pass it up, Michael's had it on sale for $44.99 and right now they are selling for way more than that online. They also had the new Tinkerbell and the Cars ones, there is supposed to be a Calligraphy one, but I didn't see it (wasn't looking at the time, found out about it after I got home) ~ if you have it already.. share what you have made using it.

Tops in Blue Air Force Show

Tonight we went to the Air Force Tops In Blue show ~ wow, it was awesome!

If this show comes to a town near you ~ you should most certainly attend.. best
part is that it is free.

We got to shake the hands of some of the performers after the show when we were leaving. It was great to get to meet them and thank them for putting on such a great performance.

Sizzix Christmas Tree with Walmart Ornaments card

My hubby made it home safe and sound.. and on time ~ thank you Delta Airlines.

When we got home and got the kiddos to bed.. I came upstairs to relax a bit.. my right leg was hurting.. it felt like the all the bones in my leg hurts. I think it was from the drive and back to the airport.. it's no easy task getting anywhere around here and to the airport and back is no exception.. but we are home and all is good.

I made this card tonight using the Sizzix Christmas Tree and the ornaments are stamped and embossed images from a stamp set I got at Walmart the other day that was under $3.00, the shiny brads I got at Hobby Lobby last week when they were 40% off Christmas crafts.. great time to always shop from that aisle in the store because there is stuff that sometimes is in the regular aisle as well, but they aren't on sale. The tree die I got at A.C. Moore with a 40% off coupon. Silver cording is Stampin' UP! as is the cardstock.. except the white layer is a piece from the Basic Grey Figgy Puddin' stack.. that layer and the tree are embossed with cuttlebug folders.

Happy Thanksgiving card .. . made while waiting

I have a few hours to wait till I leave to head to the airport to pick up my hubby.. I hope that his flights home are on time, not like the ones when he was going to Missouri (late, late, late!).. I would like to pick him up and get home so that the kids aren't up too late.

My husband last night told me about an idea/plan that we hopefully will be able to achieve for our family.. I don't want to say what it is, but it could probably be the best thing that will have happened to us while in North Carolina.. but won't happen till next August.. please pray that it all comes to be, for the good of our family.

Some random cards that I made...

These are some cards that I made the last two days. I cleaned up a bit last night and can now see the desk and the floor... those pesky scraps were everywhere.

My hubby will be returning from Missouri today... he has been there since Friday to go bow hunting with an Army buddy. They went hunting every day, seen many deer, but none come in close enough to shoot. His flight leaves St. Louis at 3:05 CST and will be heading to Atlanta and then to Fayetteville. We will be picking him up at 8 pm... we can hardly wait.

Today is Veteran's Day.

What is a Veteran: whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount up to and including their life.

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

"Our country is forever indebted to our veterans for their quiet courage and exemplary service. We also remember and honor those who laid down their lives in freedom's defense. These brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice for our benefit. On Veterans Day, we remember these heroes for their valor, their loyalty, and their dedication. Their selfless sacrifices continue to inspire us today as we work to advance peace and extend freedom around the world.
With respect for and in recognition of the contributions our service members have made to the cause of peace and freedom around the world, the Congress has provided (5 U.S.C. 6103(a)) that November 11 of each year shall be set aside as a legal public holiday to honor America's veterans." George W. Bush

As we celebrate to honor those that have served or are still serving today.. please remember that not only today should you "thank" a vet for their service and sacrifice they have made for our country.. but everyday.

Shopping trip to A.C. Moore ~ and ~ Bird on a Vine "Sweet" card

This afternoon after the parade me and the kids went to A.C. Moore so that the kids could do some of the crafts they were doing today.. they are all FREE and the kids love to go and do them. The kids each made a card and put it in the box to send to a deployed military unit. They also colored some suncatchers with sharpie markers and enjoyed some popcorn and pretzels that had melted chocolate drizzled over them.. yum!

I had a couple of coupons with me, and eyeballed some new Sizzix Christmas dies, that I have been waiting for them to get out.. the cashier told me about the Halloween dies that are now 60% off, but I have seen them for so long that I would've gotten what I wanted by now.

I used one of my coupons on the suncatchers (I had my son checkout paying for these since couons are limited one per customer) .. making them only $2.99.. it included a bunch of suncatchers, paint and brushes.. we are going to color them in with the Sharpier and Bic markers instead of painting them.. and I used the other on the Sizzix Bird and Vine die making it $12.00. I am going to get some others that they had.. but chose this one today. We also got some chocolate to make some of the popcorn and pretzel snacks, it was on sale for $1.49 a bag and we got a 10% discount on top of that.. it was a fun shopping day at A.C. Moore.

This card was made using the die that I got today.. I also used the Sizzix large scallop circle die and some Nestabilities circle dies.. I cut out the bird/vine die three times.. then trimmed around some of the images.. glued them together and then went about dotting and drawing lines on the thing.. The background paper is some Basic Grey paper I had, stamped word Sweet is from a cupcake Inkadinkado stamp set, flourish flower on top of sweet is from a Stampin' UP! stamp set, I think Doodle that.
